In addition to our managed-hosting and built-in features from our platform, the key features of the WordPress.com Business plan include an ad-free experience, advanced SEO tools, custom themes, plugin installation, access to 24/7 support from our Happiness Engineers, and more.
Our advanced security protocols from the Business plan are also included in the 100-Year Plan. These security features include automated data center failover, managed malware protection, DDOS mitigation, a web application firewall, two-factor authentication, real-time backups, one-click restore, and automatic updates. We also maintain multiple backups of your content across geographically distributed data centers.
Purchased on its own or with the 100-Year Plan, you may register a non-premium 100-year Domain in some of the most longstanding top-level domains we support – .COM, .ORG, .NET, as well as .BLOG. If you have a premium domain you would like to register with us in this system please contact us directly to discuss.
Due to a 10-year limit for all domain registrations, our team will start with a 10-year registration after the initial refund period of 120 days elapses, and renew your domain yearly to keep it active for the next 1200 months. If your chosen domain is no longer supported during the course of your 100-Year Plan, we will help you select a new supported domain at no additional cost.
Please note that “Century Proxy” will be listed as the domain registrant — that’s us! This allows us to administer the domain for you to ensure that it continues to be registered for 100 years, even when you’re busy. You still ultimately control the domain. If you wish to transfer this domain, or list yourself as the registrant, please contact us so we can help you with that change and be sure you are aware of any issues.
We are currently planning to implement more functionality to enhance the 100-Year Plan experience. These upcoming features include the following:
- Ownership Protocols: We offer special ownership protocols to help manage your numbered edition site and make sure that it remains up and working over the next 100 years. This includes specially administrated account ownership that we keep monitored to ensure your site remains available.
- Internet Archive Backup Integration and automatic link fixing: Securing your digital legacy means not only ensuring the availability of your site but also preserving it and its links. Your site will include integration with the Internet Archive that will continuously backup your site as you update it as well as a link fixer plugin that will check your site weekly for dead links, and put in a redirect to the most recent Wayback Machine link in the Internet Archive.
- Locked Mode: When you choose to put your site into Locked Mode, your site will become read-only to minimize the risk of any unauthorized changes.
- Commemorative Artifact: For each 100-Year Plan we will issue a commemorative artifact representative of the site for the owner of the plan.
- At Automattic we have thought very carefully about how to make sure the 100 Year Plans and Domains will stay active and working for the next century. One of the ways we do this is by investing a portion of the purchase price in a long-term bond account that we will use to pay the costs of maintaining these programs long into the future. These investments will help offset inflation, rising technology costs, and or allow funding a third party to fulfill the term of the agreement in the eventuality that we cannot. (Please note that any invested funds will be owned by Automattic Inc. and are only discussed here for customer assurance.)
As with all of our WordPress.com plans, the 100-Year Plan is subject to our Terms of Service, and you and your site must comply with the WordPress.com User Guidelines. And as part of registering your 100-Year Domain, you agree to the Century Proxy Terms of Service.
Normally, WordPress.com usernames and URLs can be reclaimed due to prolonged inactivity, but this won’t apply to your 100-Year Plan.
Refunds for the 100-Year Plan are limited to 120 days after purchase. No refunds are available after 120 days, but please contact us anytime if you have questions or concerns about your plan. We’re here to help.
If at some time we are not able to support the plan or domain in alignment with this original intent, we will attempt to find another hosting arrangement to complete the term, or issue a prorated refund based on the time remaining on the 100 years.
One hundred years is a long time, and a lot may change within that timeframe. While we can’t predict how technology and the internet will change, we can help explain how these changes will impact your 100-Year Plan and how our support team will help you adapt to any changes.
You should periodically review the detailed features of the Business Plan to understand any updates or changes to your 100-Year plan features. The nature and frequency of these changes may vary, but we will strive to maintain a plan that is of equal or better value than the Business Plan on the date of your original purchase.
In some cases, an important feature may be significantly changed or deprecated, and we will notify you in advance. If the change or deprecation is materially significant to the operation or preservation of your site, then, to the extent possible, we will work with you to provide an alternative solution of similar functionality and value. If a feature becomes technologically obsolete, an alternative feature generally will not be required due to a minimal impact to your site.
