Good solutions grow from powerful partnerships and united communities 🤝 On November 14, #womenatvalantic and Helmes came together to host a joint session on #GenderDiversity, #BiasAwareness, and #InclusiveCulture. The inspiring event was led by Patricia Haas and Aiki Otsalt. 💛 Key insights from Helmes: ✨ Many team-leader communities at Helmes are already led by women. ✨ Estonia’s event-centric culture enables organic initiatives. ✨ Gender balance doesn’t happen by chance; it must be built intentionally. A highlight of the session was the keynote by Mari Topolev, Diversity Manager and Coach, who shared three striking examples from Estonia that highlight both progress and the need for change: 1) Progress in action: An engineering leader launched a girls-only robotics program after noticing zero girls in regular classes – now, thousands participate. 2) Bias in hiring: Women in their late 20s are still asked in interviews whether they plan to have children – a question men rarely face. 3) Gender bias in leadership: Estonia’s former female president was asked how she “manages her job with four kids”, a question no male leader would ever be asked. 📣 Mari’s message: Bias doesn’t disappear on its own. It changes when we speak, hire, educate, and lead differently and when men and women advocate together for #EqualOpportunities.
